In 2022, drowning was the most common cause of death in children ages one to 4 in Arizona. There were more than 140 drowning incidents reported in Maricopa County in 2022, 68 of those were young children.
That is where valley resident Mikaela Jungers comes in. Originally from Southern California, the now Gilbert resident wanted to share her love of water with her family, but also wanted to make sure her children were practicing safety.
Kids in the Water is an online resource where parents can find free water safety tips and ideas on how to make water time more enjoyable. “Our online course “Teach Your Toddler to Swim” was made for parents to learn the necessary steps to teach their own children how to swim,” says Jungers. “The course can also be used for kids who have taken lessons but need refreshers or for kids who are just beginning their experience of learning how to swim.”
Kids in the Water will hit their one-year anniversary this Spring, and Jungers shares it has been life-changing for her and her clients. “In our short one year we’ve helped parents and grandparents gain the confidence they need to be a part of educating toddlers on pool and water safety and how to swim.”
