Ballet Idaho Artistic Director Garrett Anderson and Executive Director Laura Mulkey are pleased to announce Ballet Idaho’s first digital performance of the new year – For Pixie by Danielle Rowe and performed by dancers Adrienne Kerr and Justin Hughes.
After the sparkling and lavish seasonal offering of Anne Mueller’s A Spectacular Holiday Spectacular! in December, Ballet Idaho is switching up the pace with an intimate duet danced on a stage full of shadows and set to the stunning music of Nina Simone.
For Pixie has the distinction of being the first piece the now world renowned choreographer Danielle Rowe ever created. It is also uniquely personal due to the fact it is inspired by the complex and passionate love that Rowe's grandparents shared for one another. As Rowe described it, "they couldn't live with each other but couldn't live away from each other." This emotional depth results in a vulnerable exploration of the power of human connection.
For Pixie has been performed by companies such as San Francisco Ballet and SFDANCEWORKS, but this is the first time the piece has been staged with the intention of bringing a camera in so close to the dancers that you feel you are a part of the story. Danced by Ballet Idaho Principal Dancer Adrienne Kerr and Company Dancer Justin Hughes, their performance brings a new layer of intensity to the piece.
The work done by Ballet Idaho’s 20.21 Season Film Partner, FrontRunner Films, truly makes the piece come to life. As Kerr described it, “The filming process was one of the most collaborative and beautiful experiences that I have ever been a part of.”
