The American Jazz Museum in the historic 18th & Vine District is open! In order to keep everyone safe, the museum has taken extra precautions. To ensure that your visit goes smoothly, please note the following information:
Hours of operation are: Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sundays, noon to 4 p.m.; closed Mondays.
Masks for both staff and visitors are required. The number of visitors in the museum will be determined by local occupancy limitations and proper social distancing. Interactive exhibit components are still available with extra protective measures in place.
In partnership with neighboring Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, the museum has implemented a two-step admission process:
- Reserve a visit time via the Museum Passport on Eventbrite. It’s free and can be reserved at JazzAndBaseballKC.Eventbrite.com. There are two sessions every day except Sundays, which have only one session. (Between sessions, the Museum is closed for cleaning).
- Purchase a ticket to the museum at AmericanJazzMuseum.org/visit. Purchasing your ticket online before arriving at the museum is highly recommended.
When you arrive at the museum, enter the building at the south entrance off 18th Street. The north entrance (facing the Urban Youth Academy) is reserved for exiting the building and ADA accessibility.
In order to access the building, you must present your Museum Passport. If you did not reserve one in advance, you can reserve at the door, if space is available. Once you’ve presented your Museum Passport, you can either present your pre-purchased museum admission ticket, or buy one on-site.Cash is accepted, but credit cards are preferred. Then you may proceed to the exhibits entrance and show your tickets for entry.
Group tour reservations and guided public tours are currently unavailable. Public programming will remain virtual for the time being, with the exception of Jazz Storytelling (First Fridays, behind the Museum) and changing gallery exhibitions. Checking of coats, backpacks and other personal items is currently unavailable. Please secure them in your car. Baby bags and strollers are allowed but are subject to search by security. Water fountains are unavailable.
