When Eric Anderson of Reunion, Colorado, struggled to find an Uber or Lyft to get to a Broncos game last year, he stumbled across Luxury Rides, LLC, a ride-sharing service owned by Jim and Crystal Becker, also of Reunion.
“The first time that we used Luxury Rides was the last time that we used Uber or Lyft,” Anderson said.
In 12 months, he’s used Luxury Rides for transportation to other sports events, date nights, weddings and the airport.
“At the beginning of every month, my wife and I will look at our calendar and book our rides for the entire month,” Anderson said. “Luxury Rides is always 10 minutes early, clean, and professional. The drivers are always safe, friendly, and are great communicators in regards to pickup and dropoff.”
Owner Jim Becker takes driving seriously.
When he was 16 years old, he lost a best friend in an auto accident.
“I told my friends starting then and I tell my friends now that I’d rather be inconvenienced for a couple of hours than to be at your funeral,” said Becker. “If anyone needed a designated driver, I was an easy sell.”
A former Uber and Lyft driver himself, Becker launched Luxury Rides with his wife Crystal in August 2021 to turn his passion for driving into a family business.
Luxury Rides partners with professional drivers and other transportation companies while operating much like other rideshare businesses, which allows for the drivers to be compensated as independent contractors. But rather than take a portion of their earnings, Luxury Rides charges a 12% surcharge fee per trip and allows the drivers to name their price.
Customers can book online or through phone or email. Most cars are high-end SUVs — “We have a Yukon we drove to death last winter,” said Becker — but people can book vehicles like limos and party buses as well.
Mountain rides are a specialty for the company, even in the snow. Becker tells of a group last winter who called Luxury Rides from an especially blustery Steamboat for transport — no other rideshare companies would attempt the trek to them in the weather.
Jamela Davis of Commerce City used Luxury Rides for an anniversary dinner and a comedy show.
“The first time [the driver] gave us control of music,” she said. “The second time, the music we liked was already playing — he paid attention to the details.”
As the company grows to include drivers in other states, Becker envisions Luxury Rides providing a network of thousands of drivers worldwide.
Luxury Rides is offering a winter promotion: 20% for anyone who pre-books a round-trip transport. Visit luxridesco.com for details.
