Union Hill has recently welcomed Frik & Frak Market, a small coffee shop and gourmet food market driven by family and a passion for food. The market also houses the production and distribution of handmade, small-batch, artisanal Frik & Frak pasta sauces created by siblings Francy Deskin and Frank Connor. This luxury sauce brand is now offered at the market right in Canton’s backyard.
How did Frik & Frak Foods get started?
Francy and Frank come from different worlds career-wise, with Francy holding a degree from the Culinary Institute of America and Frank having had a career in IT, but cooking is a passion they share. At first, cooking delicious sauce was about feeding family and friends at Sunday dinner. Then, they noticed friends asking for batches of sauce for their gathering. Eventually, people were encouraging the duo to jar their sauce.
What spurred the idea for Frik & Frak Market?
In 2016, Francy and Frank began selling their sauce at local farmers' markets, gained traction through word-of-mouth reviews, and expanded their business into e-commerce and distribution. Today, Frik & Frak’s artisanal sauces are distributed in hundreds of Sprouts Farmers Markets, Whole Foods Markets, and Publix Supermarket stores across the region.
What will the market bring to Union Hill?
The pair hope to offer the community of Union Hill a place where they can stop in for a quick coffee and a pastry, freshly made lunch, or grab a gourmet frozen meal to take home to their family. The market is a destination where you’ll find unique finds approved by foodies Francy and Frank. Frik & Frak Market serves a niche that isn’t closely available to neighbors in the Union Hill area, but community members have welcomed that impressively.
How do you hope to see Frik & Frak Market grow?
The market has enough space to host small events indoors and out, including catered events and pop-up dinners, which will be offered in 2024. Francy and Frank plan to expand their catering menus to feature their recipes and sauces.
“The market is a natural outgrowth of the sauce. It is a place where we can build community and offer homemade, gourmet meals that feature our sauces. We have freshly made baked goods throughout the week and serve the best locally roasted coffee,” Francy says.
