Celebrate the Beauty of Romance

February is for roses and romance, candles and chocolate, sweethearts and suitors. It’s a time to cherish the special love that causes your heart to flutter, whether it has lasted decades or developed within only a few days. No matter who you hold dear, embrace the opportunity to express your affection and appreciation, from a thoughtful gift to an elegant dinner to tenderly-penned prose. In honor of the month of love, we bring you a gem from the local history books: A poem written in 1939 by Norma Ferren, a then-student of the Creative Writing Club at Mount Clemens High School. Share it while you’re cuddled up with your special someone this Valentine’s Day.

“EVENTIDE”

All day the wind’s been silent

The birds have all been still

And the maples, never stirring

Stood quiet on the hill.

All day the world’s been waiting

In hushed expectancy;

And now it comes again to life –

My love’s returned to me!
