Established in 2002, Sundance Salon & Spa, which prides itself on having “transformed the typical salon experience into something more holistic, more intimate, and more relaxing,” is celebrating its 21st anniversary this year.
The luxury salon, located at 2187 New London Turnpike in South Glastonbury, offers a wide range of styling services, from cuts and color, facials, body sculpting services, spray tanning, massages, waxings, and bridal makeup, as well as a constantly changing array of special events and boutique items.
The secret to Sundance’s success, says owner Michelle Jacoby, is the business’s adaptability, commitment to excellence and personalized customer service.
“We’re always adapting our offerings and services as we adjust to met the needs of changing times. We enjoy sharing special events. For instance, at our anniversary event Nov. 2 we had a cosmetic injectables provided by a well loved Doctor. We also offer photography for headshots and special events. We try to offer a diversity of fun things, pretty much anything customers are interested in, we try to incorporate into our rotation.”
Sundance has five stylists, most of whom have been with the salon for many years and whose experience runs the gamut from traditional to trendy. A gifted massage therapist, and an aesthetition with a wide range of services to round out the spa department.
“Our staffers stay with us a long time, enjoying the team atmosphere while developing their own accomplishments and style. We’ve had a really good record with our staff. Everyone gets to be their own creative self, we provide tutelage and shared knowledge but everyone is encouraged to do things their own way.”
Sundance’s has a loyal customer base with some clients who have been with the salon since it first opened its doors.
“We call them ‘Sunlovers or Sundancers’ and they’ve been with us at all three of the locations we’ve had here in Glastonbury,” Michelle says.
That loyalty is in part because of Sundance’s commitment to personalized customer service as well as offering classic styles while being mindful of current trends. In addition, she says, the salon has remained committed to providing high-quality educated services with prices for all beauty budgets.
"We stayed accountable to the people in our client base, we care about the people that make what we do possible. Our clients matter and our staff matters. Isn’t that what we all want, to do what we love and love what we do?"
