In 1983, David Jasik was playing guitar in a rock band at night and working at a local paint store by day. Little did he know that five years later he’d be running what was the original Sarasota Paint on 12th Street with his father, who’d purchased the business.
Fast forward to 40 years after he took that first job, and David is now the sole owner of soon-to-be six Sarasota Paint Benjamin Moore dealerships, having just signed a lease for a store in North Port Village. Plus, he is looking at properties in Parrish for a potential seventh store.
For David, it’s not just about selling paint or running a successful business. “It’s a chance to work with people and help them expand their life,” he says.
There’s a special feeling that happens when going home means you get to relax into the color palette of your choosing. Whether that’s earthy, natural colors, or bright jewel tones, Benjamin Moore has them all, he explains.
Sarasota Paint isn’t some big box store where people go to pick up paint and then leave, says David. “I have amazing employees who’ve worked with me for more than 20 years. They are extremely knowledgeable and have a lot of experience taking the ‘fear factor’ out of any customer’s painting dreams.”
In David’s experience, “many people think they can’t paint because they don’t know how.” But the crew at Sarasota Paint not only knows about the technology and the art of painting – they are ready and willing to help customers through every step of the process.
For example, “one of the most frequent questions we get at the store is ‘How do I choose a paint sheen?’” says David. While assisting with that decision, David also assures customers that “there are many different types of sheen, but Benjamin Moore’s legacy of innovation provides for premium products that deliver quality results across the sheen spectrum, no matter which finish you're using.”
Tips to Eliminate the Painting Fear Factor
Use the Right Tools: One difference between a homeowner and a professional, when it comes to painting, is that the latter has the know-how and uses the right tools. To DIY your painting project, invest in quality brushes, rollers and any other tools needed.
Take the Time it Takes to Select Your Colors: The thing about paint is that you really won’t know what the color is going to look like until you eliminate the existing color. Sarasota Paint recommends applying your sample options onto a poster board. Not only will the color be pristine, but you can also move them around to see how the color look under different qualities of light, and next to upholsteries and accessories.
Using a Superior Paint Makes a Big Difference: When buying a gallon of paint, you are going to get what you pay for. Benjamin Moore has 140 years of experience and paint science that it pours into its pigments. The result is a more durable, long-lasting, fade-resistant, and easier to apply paint than most other products.
