Captain Zig Brewing, based out of Darien, is the definition of 'local love,' a brand crafted with excellence and built with familial inspiration. Owners and creators, Alex and Mike explain, " Captain Zig is our very own superhero imagined by our youngest daughter."
Their inaugural beer, Goosecake, is an easy drinking IPA available at over 100 locations in Fairfield County. Goosecake is a nickname for their oldest daughter, Lucy, "We have been tweaking this recipe for 12 years since her first birthday. Lucy is also the artist for the Goosecake label."

DL: Tell us about Captain Zig Brewing and why you started the company.
We have been home brewing for over 12 years, perfecting our personal brew recipes along the way. Our goal has always been to create beers we can enjoy with family and friends. In 2023, we decided it was time to expand our ability to share our recipes with a larger audience. Thus, the process began, and Captain Zig Brewing was born.
Our company embodies the spirit of finding greatness inside yourself. As part of this we look to help others find their inner superhero by supporting various local charities as they strive to help others.
DL: What do you hope for Captain Zig Brewing to bring to the community?
Our goal is to create a business that can become part of the local Darien and surrounding communities. We feel strongly about supporting local causes that can improve the community, help others overcome challenges, or assist people pursuing new opportunities to move forward.
Recently we have supported local events such as cancer research in Rowayton, the Mather Homestead in Darien, the New Canaan Nature Center, and the Darien local police. We also have additional events planned in the near future, so keep an eye out! As Captain Zig grows, we hope to be able to support additional local charities and events and making sure people are drinking good beer!
DL: What is your company mission?
One of Captain Zig’s key missions is to support the inner superhero in all of us. Our wish is to carry that message forward into our surrounding communities. Therefore, a portion of every Captain Zig sale will be donated to different charities in our local communities.
Each charity will be specifically chosen in order that it speaks to our brand’s individual beer names. Our family is passionate about many causes, so we are hoping to touch lots of different organizations. Spread the love & drink good beer!
Our first donation is being made thanks to our inaugural beer, Goosecake. A portion of Goosecake's sales will support helping fight pediatric cancer. The Goose in Darien is matching our initial donation, and we are in the process of working with the Darien Toy Box to purchase items that will then be donated to pediatric patients at Yale New Haven’s Smilow Cancer Hospital. We are excited to partner with two local businesses, The Goose and Darien Toy Box in this effort.
