Being passionate about what you do is necessary for building a successful business—a concept John and Dyna Samz have taken to heart.
The longtime Yorba Linda residents and duo behind D & J Custom Crafts began their business journey 23 years ago.
With decades of experience in their respective industries (construction and painting), they decided to combine their passion for creating into something new. The result was a one-of-a-kind wood lawn decoration company.
“John made a wood item and asked me to paint it,” recalls Dyna. “We were looking for something to do in our spare time, and eventually, in retirement. As the years passed, we grew more than we could have ever imagined.”
Years later, D & J Custom Crafts remains a gem in the North Orange County community, and the feeling is certainly mutual.
“When a customer returns with praise from a previous purchase, seeing a child’s eyes continually light up, or the priceless look on a customer’s face when they see one of our displays for the first time—that’s what inspires us,” she says.
Customers of all ages flock to the shop, where they’re bound to find that perfect piece. “We celebrate all seasons and special occasions,” says Dyna.
“All of our pieces are custom-made, affordable, and painted with care. We do special orders at the customer’s request, with special attention to detail,” she says. “No job is too big or too small, and we can always say that it was ‘Made in America.’”
