From the Ground Up

Cullum Homes Launch Full-Service Offerings and 2024 Interior Trends

Imagine walking into a house built from the ground up, designed to your taste and preference. On move-in day, you need not bring a thing: the house is ready for your arrival with every furnishing, picture hung, and utensils in place.

That’s the all-in-one experience Cullum Homes is now offering clients.

Since its start in 1985, Cullum Homes has grown from being a drafting department to a true architectural firm that lives within a custom home building company. This means they do it all when it comes to architecture, home building, interior design and now, furnishings.

“We launched our Furnishings Department in 2023 with the opening of the Cullum model at the Phoenician, Senate Phoenician. Our team did the land planning, the community’s architectural concept, the architecture for that specific home, the construction, and finally, the furnishings,” said Lindsay Cullum-Colwell, AIA NCARB, Managing Principal at Cullum Homes.

Cullum Homes works hand-in-hand with their clients during all stages of development and interior, having access to an on-site showroom, a controlled environment where people can feel comfortable and confident making decisions with the transparency of material pricing and availability. Throughout the design process, furnishing gurus step in, helping place every drape, fabric, piece, and picture.

“We see what existing furniture and art families have, and then we fill in all the blanks. We even have a professional organizer.”

The Cullum Homes design team says they’ve seen a shift in the preferences of its clients, especially when it comes to the look and feel of their home. Here are four trends they are anticipating for 2024.

Pops of Color

While past trends include whites and grays, clients are now opting for vibrant colors adding excitement and personality into their space. However, even with a pop of color, there is still an emphasis on natural materials to complement dynamic color schemes. It’s expected that natural wood finishes, stone, and other organic materials will rise in popularity.

Cullum Homes Interior Studio is thrilled to announce their most significant trend dubbed “Bold and Vibrant" set to feature a stunning lineup featuring earthy browns, warm reds, burgundies, and rust. Additionally, hues of blue, blush, black, and green will also take center stage. To make a statement, add pops of color with art and accessories. Alternatively, take it up a notch by incorporating colorful furniture, rugs, drapery or wall paint.

Personalization

Personalization is hot, incorporating vintage furniture, unique art pieces, and family heirlooms. Displaying collections of items such as wall art, plates, or candle holders adds a personal touch to any room. Other styles that align with these principles are Maximalism, Grandpa Chic and Modern Country Club.

Timeless Craftsmanship

In a world where everything is mass-produced, we’re seeking handcrafted pieces with detail and care, focusing on timeless materials, classic proportions, and unparalleled craftsmanship. This trend prioritizes natural and sustainable elements that last over a decade. To embrace this, choose natural materials like solid wood and natural fibers. Opt for architectural details such as wainscoting, wall paneling, arches, and ceiling details (like wood beams).

Minimalist Design

This modern approach emphasizes simplicity, functionality, and the use of natural materials, incorporating soft curves, earthy colors, straight lines, and organic textures. Minimalist design seeks to bring elements of the natural world indoors creating a calm and peaceful atmosphere. An ideal way to embrace this is drawing inspiration from our Arizona desert. cullumhomes.com

“Layering in furnishings is the cherry on top- the last piece of that cohesive design department that lives within our broader company,” said Lindsay Cullum-Colwell, Cullum Homes.
