Whenever I embark on a new design project, I start with a conversation, reviewing my client’s wants and needs, their style and favored colors to make it uniquely their home. For this Lone Tree remodel, the homeowners wanted a kitchen, living space, and entry to be functional and a welcoming haven for family and visitors.
One of the first requirements the homeowners expressed was greater functionality and maneuverability in the kitchen, while keeping the same footprint. The original island was too wide for comfortable movement around the kitchen and lacking adequate storage. We added a rectangular island, narrower than the original to allow wider clearance for opening cabinet doors, but with lower cabinets for storage. High-tech appliances were another homeowner desire, so the kitchen is outfitted with a Wolf range and Sub Zero refrigerator.
The homeowners wanted a more modern aesthetic but nothing too cold or contemporary. We avoided the exclusively neutral palette common in modern interiors, and gave the space warmth with colors, textures, tones, and lighting. We were able to design a modern home with a classic feel. I kept trends at bay and opted for a design that would stand the test of time.
The goal was a main floor designed for maximum comfort and productivity, but also an ambient interior to provide peaceful respite after a long day of work.
- The Kingdom Exquisite Double shaker cabinets in finishes Snowdrift and Brushed Indigo and the herringbone backsplash are artful on their own, but isn’t the only star of the show in this kitchen. - The fireplace had a major makeover making it an equal focal point with the custom built-in. After it was built, we gave it a matte, light grey stacked-stone for dimension and texture. The texture adds warmth, in line with the overall design theme.
- This custom built-in is the showstopper in this living room. Wall-to-wall thick floating shelves and perfectly matched stained cabinets below made for everyone’s favorite new feature in this space.
