AustinDEEP founder Jessica Price is a body work innovator with two massage studio (and growing!) and a school teaching the trade. Throughout her career her mission has been to teach, improve, and deliver the ultimate deep tissue massage.
Jessica worked with Senator Kelly Hancock to draft a bill that allowed half of a massage student’s required training hours to be completed online, making training more affordable and accessible. With the new law in effect, Jessica launched The DEEPACADEMY School of Massage in August 2022.
We caught up with Jessica to learn more.
Have you always focused on one massage?
Yes, we have always focused on being the best at one thing: The AustinDEEP massage, our signature fascia deep tissue full body massage.
How old were you when you opened AustinDEEP?
AustinDEEP opened in 2002, when I was 25 years old. This was the day I took the leap every entrepreneur takes, not knowing how this would play out. I was young, curious, and driven and my massage was in high demand
How long between before the second location?
I spent 16 years perfecting the massage, scaling and training therapists in my method at the first location before opening the second.
You trademarked TheDEEP massage, what sets it apart from other sports massages?
Everyone on the AustinDEEP team delivers the same deep therapeutic massage, which sets us apart from our competitors.
What are key benefits of a deep tissue massage?
It begins with the fascia. This is where most deep tissue massages go wrong, they go right into the knots before releasing the fascia, which can be counter-productive and not as effective.
How often do you get one?
I get an AustinDEEP massage weekly. Incorporating it into my health and wellness routine is crucial in preventing injury and alleviating stress.
What other things do you do for self-care?
At seven-years-old I would wake up at 6am to do Mickey Mousercise. I haven’t ever stopped practicing self-care. Being healthy has been a part of my life from a very young age. I ran cross-country and overcame childhood asthma. I played basketball and streetball growing up, which helped me to realize the importance of teamwork. Being an athlete is woven into my fibers. My husband and I follow learn listen to Ben Greenfield, Peter Attia and Mark Sisson podcasts and follow a Keto diet to live a balanced life while hacking longevity.
What’s been the most challenging part of the business?
Recruiting therapists that want a career and become part of the AustinDEEP team.
What’s been the most rewarding?
Changing our people’s lives, both my team and our clients.
What’s your vision looking ahead to the next 20 years?
That people all over the world get to experience the life changing release of fascia with the AustinDEEP massage.
Any plans for additional locations? We plan to add more locations in Austin and Texas, then to expand nationwide.
