At Adams Custom Shutters & Blinds family is the foundation of the business. Phil Adams credits his wife Audrey who helps with orders, bookkeeping and logistics. Josh, their youngest son has helped in manufacturing and installation since he could drive and became full-time after graduating high school. Their oldest, Justin, started as an installer and moved to sales after graduating from college. Recently, their daughter-in-law Scarlett Adams has helped us branch more into drapery and interior design. They carry top-of-the-line fabric, rods, finials, and much more, partnering with local suppliers as much as possible.
In 2001, Phil noticed plantation shutters were becoming popular so he started his business to fulfill a need in the community. Plantation shutters are still very popular today. "They are a standard that has been around for decades and will always have a solid place in the window treatment market,” says Phil. "They provide energy efficiency and have evolved over the years with different types of wood and plastic materials to make them more durable so they last a lifetime. Recently, the larger 4 1/2" louvers have become more popular due to their ability to let in more light and have more visibility. We have also developed poly materials that hold up to moisture and humidity, hold up long term and are much lighter in weight compared to the real wood shutters. A major advantage to wood vs poly is the ability to stain and custom match paint to match doors and trim colors.”
One of the newest trends for 2024 is motorized shades and blinds. Technology plays a huge role in helping make these motors smaller, last longer, and more affordable. The other huge trend, Phil notes, is draperies as more people want more light and to maximize their view. “We have more hardware and fabric options to meet customers' design styles and budgets than ever before.”
The newest addition to the team is Scarlett Adams. She grew up in Alpharetta and has always been fascinated and intrigued by interior design. “I love serving others and making them feel happy and comfortable in their home. I not only want to put in my touch and style, but I also want to incorporate the client/home's personality while adding functionality to the room,” she says.
Justin and Scarlett have five beautiful children together. Josh Adams has three amazing children. Scarlett and Justin serve on the board of Forsyth County Community Connection. They help the community to better serve our foster and homeless families in the county. Audrey serves at the Dawsonville Medical Center every Tuesday.
