Five Tips to Give Your Home a Healthy Cleanse

It’s a new year, and as you’re checking off your New Year’s resolutions and kicking off your healthy habits, why don’t we give our homes a healthy cleanse as well? The top New Year’s resolutions usually involve improving our health, which is great! However, our environment plays a big part in sustaining healthy habits and bodies. So, to encourage our personal goals, let’s create an encouraging healthy environment with these few tips!

TIP #1

Most of us know that non-natural cleaning products often contain harsh chemicals. They tend to cause asthma attacks and damage to our throat, eyes, and nose. Why not try out some natural cleaning products and mixes that are just as effective without the harmful additives. Here are a couple that you can try!

Glass & Window Cleaner:

  • ½ cup 70% rubbing alcohol

  • ½ cup water

  • 1 tbsp white vinegar

  • 2-3 drops of lemon essential oil

  • 2-3 drops of lavender essential oil

Floor Cleaner:

  • ½ cup white vinegar

  • 1-gallon warm water

  • 2-3 drops of lemon essential oil

  • 2-3 drops of clove essential oil

TIP #2

Burning candles can also expose us to potentially harmful chemicals. So, a great replacement would be adding 3-5 drops of your favorite scent to an essential oil diffuser. This will bring those sweet and calming smells into your home with less risk!

TIP #3

Another simple way to give your home a healthy cleanse is by getting rid of some of the plastic! By replacing your plastic water bottles with a water filter attachment for your sink or a water filter pitcher, you can enjoy safe and clean water without the waste of single-use plastic bottles!

TIP #4

An additional way to get rid of more plastic in the home is by replacing plastic containers with reusable dispensers and containers made of glass, silicone, or stainless steel. Along with the water filter, this will greatly reduce the waste that winds up in our landfills and oceans!

TIP #5

Finally, after being heated to a certain temperature, some nonstick cookware has been known to break down over time and release harmful chemicals. So, a better and healthier alternative would be to use cast iron or stainless-steel pots and pans as well as wooden, silicone, or stainless-steel kitchen utensils!
