Probably the most important home maintenance, and one we probably think the least about, is the roof on our home. It’s kind of an “out-of-sight, out-of-mind” situation. It sits over our heads and quietly does its job of protecting us from the elements.
But keeping your roof in tip-top shape is critical, says Manny Tenecota, owner of MJT Roofing.
“Missing or damaged roof shingles can lead to a number of serious problems. It can create leaks inside your house, pests can find their way into your home, your energy bills can escalate when heat or air conditioning leaks out through the roof and missing, or damaged shingles overall can devalue your property.”
Insurers recommend you have your roof inspected at least once a year - more if you have extreme weather events - and that you always leave such an inspection up to a professional, like Manny.
“A roof can be seen as nothing more than beams, plywood, and lots and lots of shingles, but it’s so much more than that,” Manny says. “It’s a home’s first line of defense from the elements and, as a result, suffers the most from repeated hailstorms, damaging winds, and insane temperature changes.”
A roofer with 15 years of experience, Manny started MJT Roofing, in Willimantic, in 2010. The company services clients throughout the state and the region, installing, replacing, and repairing residential and commercial roofs.
