Some things are perfectly timed--like a basement finish project in the midst of a pandemic. Chris and Vickie Chancellor built their home in Kearney eight years ago but left the basement as a blank slate. But being self-described 'recluses,' the couple sought to create an entertainment haven that would keep their three children in college, high school, and grade school happy no matter the situation.
To accomplish this task, they asked for help from Luke Owen and the team at Owen Homes. As an engineer, Chris had defined ideas already sketched out. Owen Homes brought them to life, including structural modifications to accommodate a home theater, home office, sauna, full kitchen, exercise room, and games area.
Chris says that being able to bounce ideas off of Luke was ideal.
"Luke has a really good design sense and being able to walk through the elements with him, he had a vision very quickly," says Chris.
"I'm very detail-oriented and had some pretty defined thoughts about how things should look, so he was great about receiving those ideas and offering tweaks that he thought would enhance it. It's been a great experience," he says.
Detail one: The kitchen is central to any entertaining space. The Chancellor home includes a dishwasher, a two-tap draught system, and a small bar and wine refrigerator.
Detail two: Missing the movies? The home theater incorporates all of the elements that you long for at your favorite theater--in stair lights, comfy reclining chairs, but with the addition of unlimited snacks, and the ability to plug in a gaming system, an element much enjoyed by the Chancellor's ten-year-old son. The theater also includes enough space to bring massage therapists in for in-home treatment when the pandemic ends.
Detail is important. The Chancellors utilized marble for their sizable island and tied it in with a tiled backsplash. Their two-tap system is surrounded by wine storage, so there are plenty of options.
Detail three: The basement remodel offers a variety to do. A billiards table offers plenty of fun for the whole family. A pinball machine and golf game offer variety, as does the old-school arcade console. Sleek but comfortable bar height stools provide a place to perch while playing arcade favorites.
Detail Four: It's not all fun and games. The exercise room keeps the Chancellors in tip-top shape with a Peloton bike, weight bench, and various resistance tools.
After their workouts, they can step into a steam shower or spend some time in the sauna. The sauna offers health benefits as well as the opportunity to relax and warm up.
Detail Five: It's not just fun and games. The fireplace crackles to bring a warm ambiance to the room, which harnesses a calm feeling with cool colors and soft textural accents. An exterior sliding door allows access to the backyard as well as soft natural light.
