The Surface Creek Valley is renowned for its mild climate, which early settlers capitalized on by cultivating top-tier apples, peaches, and various other fruits. Their horticultural prowess came to national attention in 1909 when Cedaredge and other Surface Creek fruit growers participated in the National Apple Show, clinching more accolades than any other participants from around the country.
Since 1977, the Cedaredge Applefest has been an annual celebration, taking place on the first full weekend of October. It pays homage to the autumn harvest and the rich agricultural heritage of our region. This vibrant event offers a wide array of attractions, including live musical performances, an art showcase, craft and food vendors, the thrilling 5 Alarm Chili Cookoff, an exciting golf tournament, a car, tractor & motorcycle show, a pinup competition, a 5K run, and a plethora of other engaging activities.
By bringing together local businesses, apple orchards, artists, musicians, and an impressive lineup of over 180 vendors, the event draws more than 30,000 attendees. Being in its 47th year, you certainly won't want to miss out on this remarkable community gathering, brimming with the distinctive charm and flavor that defines Cedaredge.
