We’ve all set an unreasonable goal at some point—perhaps you wanted to run a marathon before life got in the way, or you were planning to attend fitness classes before work got busy. To help make your new year as successful as possible, check out these tips from The Form Lab.
Tip One
When someone has been out of a routine for a while, they tend to go all-in. Instead, start with an attainable goal: if you're inactive, add in exercise a few times per week, and make sure you're giving your body time to rest and recover.
Tip Two
If you struggle with portion control or making balanced and nutritious food choices, don't jump into a diet or an overly restrictive meal plan—they're difficult to maintain in the long run and can lead to dysregulated eating patterns. Try making simple changes and reduce—instead of eliminate—the ‘unhealthy’ things that bring you joy.
Tip Three
Whether you're motivated by a goal, the money spent on a gym membership, or the peer pressure to meet your buddy for a group class, find an activity, routine, or place where you will be able to build relationships and surround yourself with like-minded individuals.
